TBC: 2, All Saints (Div 2): 3

Testwood fall one short of All Saints.

An unusually warm but windy September morning saw Testwood travel away to All Saints, on the back of a first league win of the season. Wind against in the first half saw a disciplined defensive display from Testwood, against a very direct All Saints side. All Saints pressed and pressed but with no reward against the wall of the Testwood back line, including some fine goalkeeping. Starting the second half 0-0, Testwood launched men forward, with their wind on their side but found themselves 2-0 down quickly, with two break away goals from All Saints. The second half became very tense with Testwood pressing to decrease the gap. Hitting the bar, post and keeper it seemed the ball would never go in for the away side. Finally Testwood got their reward and brought the game back within 1, only for All Saints to break again and increase their lead back to 2. Attack after attack and Testwood eventually managed to claw one back but even with five minutes to go and countless attempts, Testwood could not find a deserved equaliser.

A great league game, played in excellent spirit, in particular some great honesty from both sides with awarding the opposing team a corner by confessing to who the ball touched last, to help the referee.

This promises to be a great return fixture later in the season….
